Porto-Vecchio visitor information can be found at the well-stocked tourist office located on the Rue du Docteur Camille de Rocca Serra, just north of the Place de la Republique (tel. 04 95 70 09 58; www.destination-sudcorse.com for Southern Corsica).
Opening hours are Mon-Sat 9am to 8pm, Sun 9am to 1pm (July & Aug); Mon-Sat 9am to 1pm & 3-6pm (June & Sep); Mon-Fri 9am to noon & 2-6pm, Sat 9am to noon (Oct-May).
The Porto-Vecchio visitor information office issues a free detailed brochure ‘Destination Sud Corse’ in English, which covers the Southern Corsica area (excluding the Extreme South, i.e. Bonifacio).
This includes beaches, sports & leisure, restaurants and a map of Porto-Vecchio’s historical sights. It is also the best place for up to date transport timetables.
There are various places to park near the centre of Porto-Vecchio, most of which are Pay & Display (either in car parks or along the roadside). You can park in the car park near to the marina and walk up into the Old Town, or along the road that rises up from the marina to the Old Town. There is also a car park in Porto-Vecchio’s Old Town in Place du Monument aux Morts, near the Town Hall.
A further option, especially if other parking is full, is to park in one of the larger car parks ‘level with’ the Old Town, hence avoiding the walk up. One such car park is Ste Catalina/Catherine on one of the main approach roads into Porto-Vecchio town centre (approximately 10 minutes’ flat level walk to the Old Town).
Supermarkets. Note that most supermarkets in Corsica are shut on Sundays. There is a small Spar supermarket on the D859 road from Figari Airport to Porto-Vecchio that can be used for provisions if arriving on a Sunday (there is plenty of parking further along the road up from the shop if no spaces directly outside).
At the northern side of the town, Hyper U is located on the junction of the D368 and N198 and Petit Marche is also located on the N198.
Casino is located on the southern side of Porto-Vecchio, on the D758 ‘Avenue Georges Pompidou’.
